More than 300 motorcyclists enjoyed the Inverell district’s scenery as they rode into town for the local Motorcycle Restorers 26th annual rally.
The four-day event began on Thursday as riders from as far as Mackay, Sydney, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour the Sunshine Coast and Armidale went out to the Elsmore Loop and back in on the Glen Innes Road.
Both Thursday and Friday’s rides were well-attended according to one organiser Peter Bates.
“On Friday we went down through Tingha to Bundarra where we stopped to have lunch, but the main day was Saturday,” he said.
Around 200 people headed down to Pioneer Village on Saturday to view the bikes before they headed off on their run.
Soon after, more than 300 motorbikes left the village on Saturday morning to complete a run through Delungra down to Bingara where the large group stopped to have lunch at the RSM Club.
“We returned via Copeton, quite a few riders stopped there because they’d never seen it before.”
Mr Bates said the event was a huge tourism booster for the town, with some rides extending their stay to a full week.
Each year the annual rally has grown in strength and side, and this year was no different.
“We’re quite proud of the amount of money it brings to the town. We are a small club so we are proud of the help we do get from local people as well,” he said.
The rally also featured some exquisite bikes including a 1944 Indian Chief with its side car, and another Indian Scout.
“There were three very collectable bikes in that area and there were a few bikes worth well over $60,000.”
Mr Bates said the annual rally appealed to so many people because it has never been a “pressured ride”.
“We like to take things easy and just enjoy the scenery.”
