UPDATE: The Gwydir Highway has reopened in Warialda after an earlier grass fire.
Diversions have been lifted.
Traffic in the area is back to normal.
The fire is under control according to the Rural Fire Service.
The fire burnt almost 300 hectares of land near Warialda.
According to an update at 2.52am, the fire is still burning.
EARLIER: Police are advising the Gwydir Highway between Warialda and Delungra is now closed due to a bushfire.
The fire has already claimed one rural property, all occupants have been accounted for.
The Rural Fire Service is currently responding to a bushfire in the area.
Police are on-scene to assist with road closures and traffic diversions.
​Motorists travelling between Inverell and Warialda are being diverted via Allan Cunningham Road and Delungra Road/Bingara Road.
This diversion is suitable for all vehicles up to 19 metres in length.
Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time and exercise caution.
Emergency services are on site working to put the fire out and local council crews are there as well.
