Inverell
Celebrate Australia Day at Victoria Park from 7.30am. Start your Australia Day in the best way possible with a free BBQ brekkie, courtesy of the Macintyre Lions Club, coffee from Wellard’s Artison Bakehouse and plenty of free fun for the kids with a Jumping Castle, facepainting and lots of goodies. The official ceremony kicks off at 8.30 am with speeches, a performance by the Danthonia Choir and awards ceremonies for Community Event, Young Citizen, and Citizen of the Year. There will be a flag-raising ceremony and singing of the national Anthem.
Delungra
A free community event , organised by the Delungra District Development Committee, takes place at ANZAC park. Expect awards presentations, market stalls, a BBQ and more live entertainment.
Yetman
There will be an Australia Day Cricket grudge match between Yetman and “The Ferals” at the Terry Barnes Oval from 10am. Events include a damper-making competition, a tug-o-war flag-raising event, and all proceeds of the BBQ will go to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Barraba
At Barraba RSL hall there will be a community breakfast at 8am, followed by a 9am ceremony with an address by Graham Ross.
Bendemeer Head to the Bendemeer Bowling Club Hotel from 9.30am to 12.30pm for a free breakfast. Activities at hotel include flag-raising, billy-boiling contest, thong-throwing, entertainment.
Kootingal
At Memory Park, Kootinga, there will be a breakfast, with gold coin donation, at Memory Park from 8am-10.30am. Events include a thong fling contest, gumboot tossing, pumpkin bowling, best-decorated gumboot.
Nundle
Head to Nundle School from 8.30am to 10.30am for a barbecue breakfast, trivia comp, children’s activities, ceremony and address by John Harper as well as awards.
Tamworth
Don’t miss the 7.30am church service, followed by the 8.30am bush breakfast, 10am ceremony, citizenship ceremony and awards. At Bicentennial Park, enjoy Toyota Stars Under the Stars at 7pm, followed by 9pm fireworks.
