Organisations in Ashford, Delungra, Staggy Creek and Elsmore were awarded funds by Inverell Shire Council on Wednesday to support family-friendly projects.
The four Recreational and Cultural Grants were: $1,700 for the Ashford Golf Club for purchasing a TV and creating a family friendly area at the clubhouse for social events; $2,000 for the Elsmore Soldiers Hall to install a concrete footpath between the hall and the amenities block; $2,000 for the Gwydir Group CWA, Delungra, to purchase seating and trestlel tables; and $1,500 for the Staggy Creek Tennis Club to replace and paint their wooden entrance and fence.
Mayor Paul Harmon presented the Recreational and Cultural Grants to representives of the groups during council’s October meeting.
The grants are designed to inject funds into volunteer-run organisations in the shire’s smallest villages and localities.
