A new time zone could be established in western New South Wales if a petition to have the length of daylight saving reduced is unsuccessful.
The Western Division Group of Councils, which represents 13 local government areas, will renew an appeal to the State Government to reduce daylight saving from six months to four.
The president, councillor Peter Laird, says if it is not wound back, the group will take its own measures to bring the region into line with Queensland.
"We're going to approach the Premier and the Deputy Premier seeing if we can get some sort of position on reducing it and if they're not prepared to look at it or do something about it, we are then going to look at," he said.
Cr Peter Laird says the new time zone would include the entire Western Division, which extends from Nyngan to Broken Hill.
"Our city cousins are making all the rules and enforcing them on us," he said.
"It's time we stood up for what we believe is right.
"I've had people east of us comment that they don't like daylight savings, so look it's not an extreme position, it's all about representing the people."
