PAST Australian and NSW champions, plus handlers and working dogs from all over NSW and Southern Queensland will be in Delungra this weekend competing for $3500 prize money, plus products and trophies at the two-day Delungra Yard Dog Trials.
Delungra Yard Dog Association vice-president Matt Ehsman said there will be two rings operating on Saturday.
“It’s the place to be on the weekend, we’ve got about 120 entries and it should be a really good weekend with some really good dogs working,” he said.
Ehsman said Kenway and Clarke would be operating a barbecue with $4 steak sandwiches, with the proceeds going to Beyond Blue.
“And there’ll be a bar there on Saturday,” Ehsman said.
He said the popularity of Yard Dog Trials was particularly strong in the southern part of the state.
“You know how strong campdrafting is up here? Dog trialling is just as strong down there,” Ehsman said.
“It is growing more and more. With stock worth more money people are starting to work out how much dogs are really worth.
“People are starting to pay a bit more for dogs because, mate, some dogs are worth four or five blokes at times.”
