OPERA in the Paddock was a resounding success, according to artistic director Peta Blyth, with superb performances by the soloists, orchestra, pianist, choir and conductor.
“We had our greatest number of singers and instrumental players with 45 on stage who were strongly supported by the expertise of the technical staff,” Ms Blyth said.
“It was our best concert ever and the crowd was extremely responsive and enthusiastic.
“My husband Bill and I are hugely proud of the high standard of performance that was produced on Saturday night.”
Ms Blyth said the home grown event on their property, Mimosa, near Delungra, would hold its own against anything of the same genre across the nation, especially in regional areas.
“Numbers were down this year but we attribute that to the difficult times rural communities have faced through the recent floods in particular,” she said.
She commended Opera Australia conductor Phoebe Briggs as “a delight to work with.”
“Her expertise greatly enhanced the performance,” Ms Blyth said.
“It is terrific to have such strong support from Opera Australia.”
This year the Mimosa choir of Inverell and Armidale singers, sponsored by Roberts and Morrow, added to the evening and the young singers gained experience from working with professionals in such an event.
One highlight of the evening was an improvisation by didgeridoo soloist Ben Lange with Queensland Symphony double bass player, Ken Poggoli.
“We are grateful for the support we receive from our sponsors , Destination NSW, Opera Australia, Inverell Shire Council, NAB, Regional ABC, Essential Energy, Malachite Resources, the German Consul and Roberts and Morrow,” Ms Blyth said.
“Their contributions make this great regional concert possible.”
