FOR 13-year-old Emma Prosser making the trip to Warwick last weekend to compete in the 2011 Woman’s Day Miss Country Girl Australia competition was the experience of a lifetime.
It was Emma’s first real taste of the modelling world and inspired by Delungra’s Katie Jones, who was the founder of the competition in 2008, she viewed the competition as a stepping-stone to something greater after completing high school.
Emma was crowned the winner of the Junior 10-13 year’s section and her mother Carolyn said she could not be happier for her daughter.
“It was a fun day and it wad good to see Emma up there and be confident to participate,” Carolyn said.
“There was quite a lot of competition actually, there were quite a lot of girls from the area and Emma did really well.
“I’m very proud of her, absolutely; she practiced a lot in the motel room the day before, we practiced a bit to get the moves right, so yes, very proud,” Carolyn said.
Emma represented Inverell very well on and off the stage Carolyn said, she mixed well with the other girls.
“There were about 23 girls there altogether in both groups who were keen to win,” Carolyn said.
Emma said she was shocked when her name was announced as the winner.
“I thought that someone else was going to win, the girl who walked on first, I thought she was going to win,” Emma said.
“She was from Warwick, she was local and I thought she would take it out, she was very pretty and she was confident.
“I was confident – but I don’t know about the prettiness,” Emma quipped.
Although Emma won prize packs and a tiara she admitted bringing much more home from the competition.
“I’ve learnt that it doesn’t matter what you look like or how old you are, you’re you and you can’t change yourself and to be happy with who you are,” Emma said.
“That’s a massive lesson – it’s a life changing lesson,” she said.
