After 10 years of campaigning, Inverell people will finally be able to catch a Country Link bus to Armidale once a week, starting on August 5.
Inverell pensioner Betty Moore said she has been campaigning since 1998 to get a bus service to run from Inverell to Armidale, and she was delighted when Symes Bus Services came on board to offer the weekly service.
“I had the opportunity to speak to Premier Iemma when I attended the 2020 Summit in Canberra a few months ago in relation to the inception of a Inverell to Armidale bus service and pointed out the need was greater now than it ever has been with the price of petrol and the aging population an issue around here.
“It pleases me greatly to finally wind this campaign up after 10 long years of gathering signatures and campaigning to politicians, it is a relief to finally be listened to.”
Mrs Moore compiled many submissions over the 10 years of campaigning and collected more than 900 signatures from Inverell, Ashford, Bingara, Bundarra, Gilgai, Tingha and Delungra.
“This service means a lot to people in this area,
“ Tuesday is the best day to have it as many of the specialist health clinics run on that day.
“I have already booked my seat on the first bus and I urge everyone to use it or we could lose it.”
