Operation ROAM out in full force
17th of Jun, 2008 10:43 am

Inverell motorists would have noticed a high visibility police presence in Inverell over the weekend with Operation ROAM in full force.

From Friday June 13 to Sunday June 15 Highway Patrol officers from New England, Oxley and Barwon commands conducted the operation within Inverell and surrounding towns to target alcohol related driving offences, excessive speed, fatigue and antisocial driving behaviour.

Five highway patrol vehicles and the Oxley command RBT bus formed a strong presence within Inverell, Bundarra, Tingha, Delungra and Ashford.

Over the weekend, a total of 1185 breath tests were conducted with five drivers reported for drink driving offences, including novice and special range offences by provisional drivers and low and middle range offences by other drivers. At 12.45am Friday June 13 Police stopped a 58-year-old female from Nullamanna upon Old Bundarra Rd Inverell due to her manner of driving. A subsequent breath test returned a positive reading and she was arrested and conveyed to Inverell Police where she underwent a breath analysis. This analysis returned of 0.165. As a result she was charged with high range PCA and bailed to appear at Inverell Local Court in late July.

Over the course of the weekend, 27 drivers were issued infringement notices for other offences including speeding, seatbelt offences for passengers and drivers, unregistered vehicles and heavy vehicle breaches.

Six vehicles were also issued defect notices for repair.

A further two drivers were charged for unlicensed driving and one male was charged for drug possession.
