AUSSIES hold top position on the Inverell District Cricket Association first grade table after cruising to an outright victory over RSM at McCosker Oval.
Aussies rolled an undermanned RSM side for just 88 and then lost only one wicket in reply on Saturday.
Tomorrow, Aussies take on third-placed Staggy Creek at Varley Oval and experienced player Pete Reimers is hoping the team will be crowned minor-premiers.
Reimers said it was a win they would be working hard for.
At the moment, there is only a one-point difference between Aussies and Oxfords and tomorrow’s matches will determine the minor-premiers.
Oxfords kept its second place on the table in the day/night clash at Varley Oval on Saturday when they posted 183 and bowled Staggy Creek out for 90.
Oxfords will play fourth-positioned Royal Rats tomorrow at McCosker Oval.
RSM has the bye tomorrow, but will not have the points, even if Royal Rats don’t win, to be placed in the final four for the semi-finals.
Reimers said the close point table would make for an interesting day of cricket tomorrow.
“We really want to win this weekend,” Reimers said.
‘Our bowling strength is up to scratch and we will have the whole team on deck.
“We are hoping to get a few more runs on the board and we are really going to be on our game.
“We want to stay on top and there is a lot of incentive for us to win this match.”
Reimers said a training run was on Wednesday to get prepared for the final round clash.
“The blokes have been fielding very well and our batting has been up to standard,” he said.
“We are pretty confident but we just have to wait and see.”
Reimers said the close scoreboard had also been because of the amount of washouts this season.
“It has been the craziest season I have seen and it was difficult for everyone to get momentum before Christmas when so many games were called off,” he said.
“And because of the washouts we have the closest scoreboard, considering there is only about 11 points difference between the top four teams.
