The Rescue Collective Facebook appeal receives help from Delungra Public School
20th of Nov, 2019 06:00 pm

Delungra Public School quickly raised an initiative last weekend to collect donations to contribute to The Rescue Collective Facebook appeal.

The appeal is providing emergency supplies to the organisations helping our burnt, dehydrated and disoriented furry friends during the bushfires.

When the kids in the Delungra school community watched television footage of the fire around the koala hospital, the story hit home.

Last year, a tiny baby koala, dubbed Amanda, was shipped from the Delungra school to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital.

"Once Amanda was released here, the students understood the importance of caring for them when they are sick," Principal Toni Withers said.

They are looking for donations of goods including Wombaroo Formulas, good quality bird food, Di-Vetalact, Macropod Pellets, Wombaroo Impact, Vetafarm Spark Liquid & Critta Care, Lectade Oral Hydration, syringes and saline, feeding bottles and teats and general medical supplies.

Donations can be dropped off at the school, or at Northaven or Country Kitchen Courtyard Café, in Inverell.

Donations will be collected until Friday, December 13.

Ms Withers supports the cause, stating that the koala is an unofficial school mascot.

"We see them at least twice a week. We've had mothers and babies for the last couple of years. The kids love that their school is inviting to the koalas."

Delungra Public School frequently receives visits from research teams or wildlife rescue groups to collect scats, data and conduct research and training.
