Delungra artist Cheree Stokes has won the Orana Arts Prize for Indigenous Art in Dunedoo.

As part of an Art Unlimited competition, Cheree's work titled 'The Mob' was one of four paintings entered.

The masterpiece was chosen by the judges for its use of colour with a hint of playfulness, using elements such a dot painting, totems, handprints and religious symbols to mesh with and express aspects of her identity.

Art Unlimited prize winners were announced at a preview reception in Dunedoo last Friday night celebrating the 10th year this competition has been held.

Orana Arts gives the $500 prize for indigenous art each year. Meanwhile, one of Australia's most acclaimed and widely-exhibited landscape painters, Graham Cox, won the Peabody Wilpinjong Prize for hanging art.

Graham was awarded the $3000 prize for his oil on canvas titled "Stormy Pastoral".

Judge Sarah Gurich, Director of Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG), chose the work from 220 entries in the competition's hanging art category.

"The drama of this pastoral scene, with its foreboding storm clouds, monumental landscape, and orange glow of the setting sun, is rich with metaphor and meaning," she said.

The Art Unlimited exhibition will be open to the public until Sunday, May 26.

Hours are 9.30am to 4pm, with the exception of the final day when it closes at 3pm.
