Delungra Yard Dog Championships held on weekend
27th of Aug, 2017 07:48 am

The friendly and informal manner of competitors at the Delungra Yard Dog Championships belied the intense focus of handlers and their animals once they entered the ring.

More than 200 entries tackled the timed obstacle courses on the weekend across local, novice, beginner, maiden, improver and open championship categories.

The annual event drew about 50 onlookers to the Delungra Recreation Ground for the two-day competition where champion entrants like current NSW Yard Dog Champion ‘George’ with owner Justin Tombs and previous state champion ‘Dash’ and his owner Jai Moar, made the mustering challenges look easy.

Place-getters in the Local and Beginner heats were announced on Saturday. The Local category saw Anthony King and Strike take first place on 91 points with Dave Wilkinson taking out equal second and third places with Charlie and Dusty both scoring 90.

In the Beginner category Anthony King and Strike again took first place with 91 points, and Shelley Burns took second prize with Pip on 89 points. Third place was tied with Logan Boswell and Toothless, and Anthony King with Cinch both scoring 82.

Remaining winners will be announced on Sunday evening, August 27. Please check back for details.
