, LAST week’s timely rainfall has been met with positive responses for district farmers., Inverell’s official rainfall figure was 56.4mm over four days., The Bassett family of Pindaroi said the 63mm recieved was just what they needed., “It was great for our (1760 ha, 4400 acre) property - we got a bit more than what they did in our town and are so pleased,’’ Kay Bassett said., The Bassetts operate a mixed farming property with stock and grain., “Our crops were just starting to come out of the ground and this rain has given them a boost.’’, Another concern for some farmers was their rainwater supplies during the dry spell., Janet Redman of Highlands, who operates two other properties with her husband Tony, said they were very low on rainwater and the recent 38mm they received was a great bonus., “We had been in Darwin for four weeks and came home to very dry and cold conditions,’’ Janet said., “The rain is a great kick along for our crop, cattle and sheep property - it will also help stock prices.’’, Out Delungra way good falls were also received and boosted the spirits of farmers., Robyn Uebergang of Kenyu between Delungra and Warialda was greatly pleased with the 75mm recorded., “It was good soaking rain and just what the crops needed this time of year,’’ Robyn said., Leonie Turner of Bundarra property Swan Reach feels extremely lucky after last week’s 57mm of rain., “It wasn’t looking very promising on the Monday but when it came down by Wednesday we were so pleased,’’, “It’s a great boost for the crops and a good start for next season., “There’s been good falls all around and people are very happy,’’ Leonie said.
