INVERELL entertainment sensation Opera in the Paddock has continued to draw in applause after it won an award for outstanding achievement at the 2003 Inverell Business Awards.
Opera in the Paddock was held for the second time at Delungra property "Mimosa” on March 15 of this year and attracted about 1000 people.
The event featured three singers including one of the event organisers Peta Blyth, who accepted the award with her husband Bill on Friday night.
"We were delighted and very grateful to the Inverell Chamber of Commerce for the recognition.
"It was such a surprise.
"Being a cultural/social event in the bush, it's nice to know it's been very popular – it's a nice bonus,” she said.
Mrs Blyth said Opera in the Paddock would be held on March 20 of next year and would hopefully be even bigger and better than this year.
Inverell's Elizabeth Campbell is a mezzo soprano and will sing at next year's Opera in the Paddock.
"We hope to develop the event.
"It's a great social night and attracts people from a wide area.
"People who have never been to opera before have said what a great night it was,” she said.
Opera spectators came from as far as Townsville, Melbourne and Brisbane and many regional areas this year.
