10th of Jun, 2003 12:27 pm

SEVERAL hundred people attended this year's Myall Creek massacre memorial service on Saturday to remember the unprovoked murder of about 28 Wirrayaraay Aboriginal women, children and old men by stockmen in 1938. The service was held at Myall Creek on the Bingara-Delungra Road and Myall Creek memorial committee spokesperson Ted Stubbins said it was a wonderful day. "I was particularly pleased by the involvement of young people from Bingara, Macintyre and Inverell secondary schools.” NSW Governor Professor Marie Bashir was the guest speaker at the service and she spoke of the need to acknowledge past atrocities and injustices against Aboriginal people as a basis for

reconciliation.
