Quilt show attracts nation's best
7th of May, 2002 08:53 am

THE quilt show held in Delungra on the weekend featured some of the best quilters in Australia, according to one of the organisers. The 'Blood, Sweat and Tears' quilt show was held in the Delungra Multipurpose Hall on Saturday and Sunday, with almost 130 quilts and wall hangings on display, crafted by Delungra residents. Di Uebergang said the organisers chose the unusual title for the show because 'that's what quilting is'. "You have to put a fair bit of work into making a quilt,” she said."You prick your fingers and things go wrong.” Di said the quality of the displays was very good, and 'fairly up there' with the best quality quilting in the country. There are about six or eight quilters from Delungra who regularly go to city shows, like the one in Brisbane. There are some really good works at shows like that, and I reckon we can match them.” The Delungra show also featured crafts such as dolls, teddy bears and cross stitch, and included demonstrations in patchwork and embroidery techniques. Di said the event attracted more than 200 people over the two days. "There were a lot of people from away, as well as from the region,” she said. "We even had some people from South Australia who were just travelling through.” The show raised about $1600, which will go to the Delungra CWA and the Multipurpose Hall committee.

The next show will be held in 2004.
