Women who have influenced guest speaker Peta Blyth's life was the topic of a speech for an International Women's Day function at the Inverell RSM Club on Friday.

Mrs Blyth is organiser and performer of Opera in the Paddock to be held on her property Mimosa at Delungra on Saturday.

She spoke about three women who have helped make her the person she is today.

Those women were pianist Pamela Page with whom Mrs Blyth studied and principal vocal teacher in Brisbane, Margaret Nickson.

Singing teacher at the Royal College of Music London and former principal soprano at Carl Rosa Opera Company, Ruth Packer was also a great influence.

Mrs Blyth also spoke about juggling different facets of our lives.

Listening while eating a cooked breakfast was a group of 50 women from Ashford, Delungra and Inverell.

"It was rather topical because of the Opera in the Paddock coming up," said Barbara Eshman, Inverell Shire Council public relations officer.

Mrs Blyth enjoyed the function.

"It was a really good initiative," she said.
