Field day to uncover groundcover truths
8th of Aug, 2006 07:58 am

THE Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment Management Authority (CMA) will hold a field day on Friday to officially launch the Extension Package Ground Truths Uncovered.

This publication is an initiative of the Border Rivers-Gwydir CMA and the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

Presenters will discuss groundcover and related topics, including how improving groundcover improves productivity; how to improve the effectiveness of rainfall; how much groundcover is enough; how to measure groundcover in the field and maintain it; and the importance of farm planning and how to get involved.

The publication is based on the case study of two beef grazing properties in the Inverell district, 'Magnet' near Delungra owned by Trevor and Colleen Jorgensen and Ian and Rosie Long's property ‘Llanarth' north of Ashford.

The field day commences with district agronomists Bob McGufficke (Inverell) and Jeff Lowien (Glen Innes) discussing the importance of groundcover and giving a demonstration in the field.

The field day will be held at the Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment Management Authority, 7023 Gwydir Highway, Inverell, from 9am.
