Delungra collectible show to support cancer group
24th of Aug, 2015 05:41 pm

DELUNGRA is getting ready for their 31st annual Collectibles Show which attracts collectors from the district to the coast every year.

Delungra resident Harry McNaughton has helped organise the show at the Delungra multi-purpose hall for several years and said it was a great day out.

“It’s a very interesting thing. There is a variety of collectibles, there’s something like 38 different categories for collected bottles and there’s 55 categories for collectibles,” Harry said.

“It’s a bloody good weekend,” he added with a chuckle.

There are swap stalls, items to browse and buy.

As in years past, for a small fee an appraiser will be on hand to examine your treasure for a personal Antiques Roadshow experience.

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall will attend to formally open the show.

Proceeds are donated to a charity assisting district residents, and the committee chose the Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group as their 2015 show recipients.

“They’ve helped some local girls here and in Inverell, so we’re going to help them,” Harry said.

Support group president Jan O’Neill said she was looking forward to the show for several reasons.

“It’s exciting for me particularly because I am a collector of antique fine china,” she said.

“So I’m going to enter some of my pieces in the competition out there on Saturday.”

Jan added the group was always grateful when they were considered.

“Honestly, we continue to be amazed by the support we are getting. It’s just wonderful.”

Doors open for the public from 9am to 4pm Saturday and 8am to 3pm on Sunday.

Entry is $5 per person, and food and drinks are available for purchase from the Delungra Girl Guides.

If you would like to enter your collectibles or have a stall, phone Leah Humphries on 6724 8292 or 0418 989 288.
