AN officer with the Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment Management Authority wants to establish a property management planning group to address riverine problems at Mosquito Creek, west of Delungra.
Catchment officer Nicole Gammie wants landholders in the area who are concerned about creek bank erosion and other issues to attend an information session at the Gravesend Hall, Railway Parade, on Friday, August 4 at 8.30am.
Nicole is keen to orchestrate a Property Management Planning Group to examine ways to address the erosion and other issues.
This will be done through the development of individual landholder property plans and an overall sub-catchment plan of the area.
Riparian land is fragile and performs a vital link between land and water ecosystems.
Good management of riparian land is an essential component of sustainable management.
Intensive development and over-clearing results in water moving quickly off the land surface in times of heavy rain, so if riparian land is not well vegetated with deep rooted plants this can lead to flood-outs, stripping of topsoil from the floodplain and accelerated bank erosion.
Riparian land is any land that adjoins or directly influences a body of water.
* For more details about the Gravesend information session phone Nicole Gammie, 6721 9841. Interested landholders should contact Nicole before Friday, July 28 if they are attending the session.
