A BEAMING Scott Chester was back on the beat yesterday after being named Inverell's Citizen of the Year.
The award, which was presented to Mr Chester by Mayor Barry Johnston, recognises his outstanding contribution and voluntary service to the community.
He arrived in Inverell as a fresh-faced constable in 1988 and immediately became involved in the community he so clearly loves. He was stationed at the Inverell Police Station until May 2003 when he transferred to Delungra.
He is also actively involved in the Delungra Community and was instrumental in organising its first Australia Day festivities.
Mr Chester's involvement in the community includes working with youth by organising Blue Light Discos.
Last year he organised a Police and Friends Charity Golf Day which poured $3500 back into the Delungra Community.
In Delungra, Veronica Farragher, Eunice McGrath and Elaine Wenzel were awarded outstanding community service awards; John Martel, Harry McNaughton, George Wenzel were awarded for their outstanding sporting service; while Douglas Cover, David Martel, Nicholas Edwards, Rachael Kent, Casey Edwards, Jack Cole and Brendan Jones were awared for sporting achievement.
