POLICE negotiations with an Inverell man lasted for eight hours at a property north of Delungra on Tuesday night. The man became involved in a domestic argument with his de-facto about 6pm at a property on the Graman Road. Police were called to the scene at 7pm. Upon arrival, the man threw bottles and rocks at police. The man threatened to commit self-harm by using a knife in his possession. He then caused damage to the property by lighting a fire. The situation became a stand-off between police and the offender and specialised police were called to the scene about 9pm.
Negotiations started, but the man continued to threaten self-harm and damage to the property. Two ladies, one man and four children were removed from the premises by police. Negotiations continued until he surrendered at 3am. He was taken to Inverell Police Station where he underwent a mental assessment. The man was charged with assaulting police and threatening to injure to prevent police investigations. He was refused bail and appeared before Inverell Local Court yesterday.
