Community cleans up
8th of Mar, 2011 09:50 am

MORE than 200 Inverell residents volunteered their Sunday morning over the weekend as part of Clean Up Australia Day.

Holy Trinity, Volunteer Rescue Association, Apex, Rotary, Lions, SES, Red Cross, Delungra Girl Guides, Delungra District Council and the South Inverell Residents Association were among some of the volunteering groups.

Truck loads of rubbish were picked up from parts of Ashford Road, Tingha Road, Delungra, South Inverell, the Macintyre riverbank and around the streets of Inverell.

Large amounts of rubbish collected were fast food drink cups and wrappers.

Sponsors who made this year’s clean up one of the biggest were McCoskers bus service, PFD Food Services, Ritchies IGA, Inverell Shire Council, Rotary and Lions clubs.

Volunteers who helped make a difference enjoyed a barbecue and a swim at the Inverell Swimming Pool following the clean up.

Clean Up Australia Day will be held in Ashford on Friday.
