The Merida Copeton Six Hour Enduro mountain bike ride was held out at Copeton Dam on Saturday, and organiser Mick Hoynes said the day was a huge success.

The event was a testing six hour ride, where riders had to ride as many laps of the 8km circuit as possible in the allotted time.

There were three divisions comprising of individual, two man, and three man.

In the teams divisions the race was held in a relay style, where competitors could rest while their team mates took over.

There was also a two man junior division, which was a three hour race.

Richard Lucas from Warwick took out the individual’s section in a time of six hours and nine minutes, followed by local rider Mick Hoynes. Dave Fischer placed in third.

The two man division was won by Tony Williamson and Darren Halliday, while Michael Benham, Joanne Benham and Dennis Fischer took out the three man.

The juniors was won by Ryan Thomas and Gill Bergers.

Second were Blake Schuman and Liam Hoynes, while Fletcher Ward and Sam Husson placed third.

Hoynes said it was a hard event.

“It was a challenging course, very technical in some parts. The duration of the event made it a pretty tough gig.”

He said the competitors were very impressed with the day.

“Everyone was rapped with the course, they are all keen to be back next year.”

The event was part of a series; upcoming races include a tough 12 hour ride in Armidale and a five hour ride in Guyra.
