25th of Feb, 2011 10:02 am

A six-hour mountain bike ride will be held at Copeton Dam tomorrow as a fundraiser for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

The event is open to teams and individuals and it is part of a series which includes events at Walcha and Guyra.

Organiser Mick Hoynes said the sport is popular and the best thing about it is it gives riders the options to compete in a team or as an individual.

“We are happy with the response for our first event and have riders coming from a wide area including Newcastle, Warwick and Coffs Harbour which is encouraging,’’ Hoynes said.

The course at Copeton Dam comprises an 8km circuit of undulating single track racing with some challenging climbs.

The rider who does the most laps in the fastest time is declared the overall winner. The sections are six-hour individual, six-hour two person and six-hour three person.

At 7am the track will be open for participants to inspect.

This will be followed by sign-on at 10am and a briefing at 11am.

The senior race starts at12 noon. There is a junior race which is run over three hours starting at 3pm .

Following the racing there will be entertainment at the Scout Hall area.
