Opera in the Paddock 10th Birthday
1st of Feb, 2011 08:36 am

Opera in the Paddock celebrates its 10th birthday this year and organisers are again set to provide a night of musical magic under the stars.

Event founder and host, Peta Blyth, said the growth of the event during the past decade had been extraordinary.

"Our first concert attracted 600 people, now we’re averaging an audience of around 1,500 and the company also has plans to extend its activities to other regional towns," Mrs Blyth said.

"Our original aim of bringing quality artists to the bush to perform in a natural environment has been well and truly fulfilled."

Thanks to additional funding from Arts NSW and sponsorship, Opera North West will present concerts in centres such as Tamworth, Lismore, Tenterfield and Murwillumbah.

And, through the concerted efforts of the newly formed Friends of Paddock Opera, funds have been raised to sponsor the conductor Timothy Sexton and allow for a slightly larger Mimosa Orchestra.

Opera in the Paddock is staged at Mimosa, the property owned by Peta and her farmer husband, Bill, 25 kilometres west of Inverell.

A prelude to the main event is a recital on Friday, March 18 at the Inverell Town Hall with the singers, accompanied by pianist David Miller.

Ms Blyth said organisers were looking for the very loyal supporters who have attended every opera in the past 10 years. If you fit this description, please contact them on the number below.
