ORGANISERS of next year's Opera in the Paddock have received a major boost with a funding grant of $7500 for the increasingly popular event.
Member for the Northern Tablelands, Richard Torbay announced the grant to organisers Bill and Peta Blyth on Friday.
This year the event received a grant of $3000 and the Blyths couldn't be happier.
"It's wonderful to have the event recognised and we are very happy and looking forward to the third opera," Peta said.
"This support helps us make it an affordable night for people to experience the opera in a rural area which is very special."
The Blyths stage the event on their property, Mimosa, Delungra.
A lot of planning is required and the hard work has been recognised.
Mr Torbay has acknowledged the importance of the opera.
"The Blyths have done a fantastic job at the past two and next year's is going to be even better with some of the nation's leading performers in attendance," Mr Torbay said.
Soprano Peta, will be joined by well-known mezzo soprano, Elizabeth Campbell and bass, David Hibbard for the March 20 performance.
Elizabeth and David will be involved later in the year in the international presentation of Wagner's Ring Cycle in Adelaide.
Elizabeth, was born in Inverell and has family still here, has established herself as one of Australia's leading singers.
Brisbane-based David is one of the country's leading basses and has performed extensively in Europe and Australia.
Peta, Elizabeth and David will be accompanied by tenor David Hamilton and pianist David Miller in an exciting evening of arias, duets, trios and quartets from opera, operetta and musicals.
The Blyths are also grateful for the ongoing support from sponsors, New England Credit Union, Country Energy, Allianz and Syretts Newsagency.
Ticket prices for the March 20 event are $35 (adults), $20 (students), $10 (children), family concession $85 (two adults and up to three children).
