Two stand for election
23rd of Nov, 2010 01:13 pm

PHIL Girle and Anthony Michael will go head to head on December 11 for the Inverell Shire Council by-election.

Both candidates have been heavily involved in the Inverell community and have decided to take their passion for Inverell and service to the community to the next level.

Anthony has been involved with the Inverell Chamber of Commerce and Industry for many years and up until recently was the chamber president.

"I thoroughly enjoyed working as part of the Chamber of Commerce team and I am very proud of the contribution made by the chamber to promote Inverell as a major shopping destination," he said.

Anthony is involved in several active committees including the community safety committee, which is currently working to have CCTV installed in the CBD.

He is determined to have the best possible health services for Inverell and believes tourism is the key to a strong future for Inverell.

Phil Girle sees standing for council as continuation of his desire to serve the community.

"In the early years I was involved with Apex and then I was apart of the schools P and F for 13 years and now I serve on the board of the McLean Care Foundation," he said.

This year Phil was the chairman of the Inverell Relay for Life committee.

He is particularly interested in the transparency of council and making sure the community is aware of decisions made by council.

The by-election will be held on Saturday December 11 with polls in Ashford, Bonshaw, Delungra, Gilgai, Yetman and Inverell.
