THE Inverell senior cricket competition is set to start on Saturday, October 9.
At the recent annual general meeting, Eric Higgins was elected president, Rhonda Brabant (secretary/treasurer), Darren Blatch (competition recorder).
Representative selectors are Graham Kent, Troy Brabant, Dave Mudaliar and Eric Higgins.
Four teams have nominated for the A grade competition – last year’s premiers Staggy Creek, Aussies, Royal Rats and Campbell and Freebairn Rebels.
This season B grade comprises seven teams – Warialda, Invincibles, Tingha, RSM, Tavern, Delungra and last season’s premiers Square and Compass.
President Eric Higgins has welcomed the inclusion of Warialda into the local competition.
“It is good to see Warialda enter a side in B grade and Glen Innes is also planning to enter the Twenty20 competition later in the season,’’ Higgins said. Inverell has entered a team in the War Veterans Cup and also a team in the M.A Connolly Cup (Central North seconds competition).
Both teams start their representative campaign on October 24.
Inverell hosts Armidale at McCosker 2 in the War Veterans Cup and the Dumaresq Colts in the M.A Connolly Cup in Armidale.
Dave Mudaliar has stood down as wicket curator and his place has been taken by Phil Riley.
“Phil admits he has a bit to learn about preparing wickets but he is really keen to prepare the three turf wickets in Inverell,’’ Higgins said.
Due to Varley Oval being unavailable on October 24 and 31 for representative matches, matches will be played at McCosker 1 and 2.
The A grade competition will again be a mixture of two-day and one-day games (two rounds of each). All matches in B grade will be one day.
Both grades will finish on April 2, 2011
Teams are reminded that all players are to be registered at the next committee meeting on Tuesday, October 5, 7.30pm at Varley Oval.
All teams must have a representative at the meeting otherwise two competition points will be deducted.
The association also has a three-person ambrose golf day on Sunday, October 10 in support of the Sports Council Day. To nominate a team contact the Inverell Golf Club or let Eric Higgins know on 6725 1576. A great day is guaranteed and all players win a prize. Cost is $30 per person which includes golf fees and lunch.
