FOR the third year in a row the East Gwydir District Women’s Bowls team claimed the Jean McKinnon trophy on Tuesday.

It was a nail-biting contest and came down to the final bowl before East Gwydir were declared the winners.

64 bowlers from Central Northern, Namoi, New England and East Gwydir Districts braved the cold, windy weather to bowl for the Jean McKinnon trophy at the Inverell Women’s Bowling Club.

East Gwydir were just too good, winning with nine points followed by Central Northern with eight, New England with five and Namoi with two points.

The winning team included players from Delungra, Ashford, Inverell Women’s and RSM Women’s.

East Gwydir players taking out the trophy were Lorna Moore, Penny Wilson, Margaret Fenton, Beth Davidson, Mandy Hawke, Rhonda O’Neill, Gloria Gaukroger, Vivienne Lennon, Sharon King, Jane Leader, Gloria Anderson, Neta McIntyre, Jan Moss, Pat Campbell, Trish Brooks and Beryl White.
