TAS shooters take honours
21st of Jul, 2010 11:19 am

THE ARMIDALE School’s rifle team took out the annual NSW Rifle Association’s All-Schools competition at the ANZAC Rifle Range in Sydney on Saturday. Battling it out for the Fiona Reynolds Memorial, the TAS Gold team won the competition by 23 points from Shore, with the Sydney Grammar School and the New England Girls’ School close behind. The meet was shot in clear and breezy conditions that provided a challenge to the wind coaches. It was shot over three ranges - 300, 500 and 600 metres - with 10 shots to count at each. The TAS Gold team comprised captain Mitch Maguire (Dungowan), Jock Barnett (Delungra), Hamish Turnbull (Ebor), Luke Styles (Dungog) and Toby Crothers (Glen Innes). The ‘king of the range’ award also went to a TAS shooter, with Crothers taking honours with 147 points from a possible 150, which included 11 bullseyes. Crothers shot scores of 49-2, 49-2 and 49-7 at each range. Capping off the day, TAS also won the Prorak Trophy, a perpetual match between Sydney Boys’ High, NEGS and TAS.
