7th of May, 2010 11:57 am

The first round of Inverell Motor Cycle Sports Club Championship was held last Sunday at the motorcross track on Ashford Road.

The Inverell track was prepared in the lead up to the event by an enthusiastic number of the younger senior riders, who put in great efforts to have the track in top condition for the event.

Riders travelled from Moree, Warialda, Delungra, Bingara, Armidale, Uralla, Grafton with 80 in all to compete against locals.

As this was the first motocross for the season, which saw a number of new participants especially in the 50cc class, organisers took time out to show young riders Tallin Rolfe, Sam Davis, Oliver Marchant, Jayden WIlliamson and Harrison Little correct techniques as they tackled the jumps and rougher sections of their specially laid out track.

The junior class 65cc and 85cc were hotly contested and saw a number of riders come down in some races, but no serious injuries. In the junior 65s Harrison Smith came first followed by Adam Smith and Jed Carroll. Junior 85s saw Bullfrog Justin Taylor first, Darch Walsh second and Zach George third.

Senior 65cc and 85cc was also saw some spectacular racing for the day.

Placings for senior 65cc were Kyle Smith overall first, Sam Pierce in second and Brent Rees taking out third for the day. Senior 85cc winners were Sam Mason, Isaac Tkalec and Alex Daw.

Cameron Taylor from Warialda dominated the junior lites with Brett Carroll and Caleb Gasbarri finishing with the places and Lachlan Walsh, Dylan Lewis, Brock George, Brayden Ting, Luke Turner, Taylor Mason, Tyler Reeves, Troy Rees, Blake Fletcher and two other riders from Armidale battling hard with close competition in the 125cc class.

Darrell Lewis was in great form going into the event, seemingly getting faster lap times the older he gets and completely dominating the over 35/45cc class.

Jason Brand was a contender keeping the rest of the field at bay. They also both backed up competing in A and B grades.

Andrew Daw and Turbo Turner also enjoyed some friendly rivalry in this class with close racing.
