Young author raises money for fire victims

WHILE most ten year olds are reading children’s books, Delungra Public school student Matthew Giakoumi is writing them.

He has recently completed his first book, ‘The Story of Anni the Bear and Amy the Lynx’.

The book is about a special and unlikely friendship between a bear, Anni, and a lynx, Amy.

They spend the whole summer together but as winter approaches they need to go their separate ways.

The book is set in the remote forest of Canada and filled with amazing paintings and illustrations.

A launch will take place at The Dust Jacket on Friday, April 16, from 10.30am to 12pm.

The launch will include fun activities for children and adults, a lucky door prize and a reading from the book.

Matthew will also be signing copies of the book. The launch coincides with the school holidays so as many children as possible can come to the launch.

“Most of the proceeds of the book will go to the Otho Street fire victims,” said Matthew.

“After my grandma told me about the fire and I saw it for myself I realised I wanted to help,” he said.

“Hopefully this is helpful in some way.”

When pressed on what he wants to do when he is older, Matthew already knew.

“I want to be an author or a carpenter,” he said.
