Students learn about waste
16th of Mar, 2010 09:15 am

THE world of waste is a wonderful thing!

At least that’s what Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Waste Watchers program is promoting locally in its latest campaign called Wide World of Waste.

Students from schools including Ross Hill, Delungra, Holy Trinity, Bonshaw, Gilgai and Ashford were treated to a series of fun activities designed to highlight how to deal with everyday waste products.

Inverell Shire Council’s Manager Environmental Services was keen to let the local community know that this program is a regular event, and attracts new interest each time it is brought to this area.

Primary students in the Inverell Shire have been exploring waste related issues over the past week.

The most popular workshop, Wide World of Waste allows students to analyse potential waste items and how to avoid creating waste in the first place. Reduce, reuse and recycle strategies are emphasised and students get real hands on experience.

Ross Hill students joined in on sessions during Wednesday’s program with Keep Australia Beautiful Environmental Education Officer Natalie McCready.

Ms McCready spent much of this week touring local schools presenting a tried and true format that enthrals students and provides a great teaching platform.

“It’s been going really, really well,” Ms McCready said.

“Since Monday I’ve travelled throughout the district and have been impressed with the enthusiasm of students.”
