Alan is Inverell's Australia Day ambassador

Sydney businessman and life governor of Surf Life Saving Australia and The International Life Saving Federation, Alan Whelpton AO will visit Inverell as an Australia Day Ambassador.

Mr Whelpton will travel to Inverell to attend a series of activities organised for Australia Day.

The family fun day celebrations he will attend include Ashford from 7am to 10am, followed by Delungra Park from 11am to 1:30pm and finish at the Inverell Pioneer Village from 3:30pm to 7pm.

During Mr Whelpton’s time as president of Surf Life Saving Australia female members were introduced as well as female competition, Masters competition, Iron Man competition, inflatable rescue boats and the National Surf Life Saving Championships.

In 1982 Mr Whelpton received an AM in Australia’s Honours and in 2007 was elevated to AO “Officer of the Order of Australia” in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

In 1996 he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and is now a selector for the National organisation.
