Nation Building Projects are nearing completion at a range of locations in the Inverell Shire, including a $25,000 footway and bicycle path at Gilgai which stretches from the Gilgai Shop back to the north, across the highway and then along Stannifer Street which was funded from the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).
The project’s deadline for completion using Federal funding is September 30, and Inverell Shire Council has nearly completed the projects using these funds, and will use council funding for some bigger projects that will not be completed by the deadline.
From this Federal Government Economic Stimulus Initiative, the council received funding of $533,000 for community projects under the RLCIP.
Several works have been funded under the program.
$25,000 was spent on new foot and bicycle paths at Gilgai and a large community shelter and BBQ was also installed in the park adjacent.
The work at Gilgai was what the sign outside the RFS Shed was referring to, reported in last week’s Inverell Times. Although the sign was moved from that site this week.
Inverell Heated Pool scored a $133,000 upgrade of heating, roof structure and pool filtration systems, a footway/bicycle path worth $100,000 will be constructed from Swanbrook Rd to Macintyre High School and HN McLean Retirement Village. Parks across the shire will also get an upgrade thanks to the funding, including the Yetman Caravan Park, Walter McRae Park in Ashford, The Delungra Hall Area, Cameron Park Inverell, Campbell Park Inverell and a major refurbishment to Victoria Park in Inverell worth $130,000.
In addition to the Federal Government Funding, council has funded additional complimentary works on each of these projects, particularly in Gilgai, Ashford, Delungra and Yetman to ensure a successful outcome for these communities.
By September 30, the RLCIP funding deadline, the council will have exhausted all of the available RLCIP Funds, however, works will continue up until December 31 on the Cameron Park amenities and Victoria Park redevelopment projects from council funding to complete these major community projects.
The Cameron Park amenities building will deliver a modern amenities building that can be utilised by the wide range of community groups that use the Cameron Park area.
The Victoria Park redevelopment will deliver to the community a greatly improved community park, incorporating the Gallipoli Lone Pine Memorial, where the community can relax or come together for family and group events with additional playground facilities.
