Inverell’s National Transport Museum will be holding its first ever Goanna Run this Sunday to raise money to complete stage two of the museum’s expansion project that will see the current site expanded by 3500 metres, making it a must see for Australia’s motor enthusiasts.
The run will be held on Sunday March 29 at 9.30am from the museum at Taylor Ave, and the participants will be joined by people from Delungra and Gravesend, before heading towards Bingara and “Myall Creek Station” for an inspection and morning tea. Wayne Pollock will then tell the story of its history.
The group will then travel to Bingara for lunch, and will also carry out a further inspection, before travelling by the beautiful Gwydir River to “Keera Station” for afternoon tea. Hugh and Sinclair Munro will be on hand to tell participants about the history of the station. Staff from the museum said they were expecting quite a few participants but hoped more would turn up on the day as it was open invitation with any car invited to attend.
Participants on the Goanna Run will not only get to hear about the history of two fascinating local stations, but will also be searching for goannas along the way through the beautiful scenery of the Bingara area.
There will be an entry fee of $20 per car and $10 for Motorcycles. This will help the new building fund. Contact the museum staff on 6721 2270.
