Bikes roar for Salvo’s toy run
9th of Dec, 2008 09:38 am

The roar of exhausts replaced the sounds of jingling bells spreading Christmas cheer when more than 120 motorbikes filled the streets of Inverell, Delungra and Bingara on Saturday for the Inverell Salvation Army’s annual Toy Run.

Inverell motorcycle riders came together to support the Inverell Salvation Army Christmas Appeal to provide gifts and Christmas cheer to people who are most in need.

Salvation Army Captain Chris Millard said the Toy Run was a massive success with local motorbike riders and community members offering great support to the cause.

“We raised more than $3500 for the Christmas appeal and also got a heap of toys to give out to families over the next few weeks.

“The community really got behind us again and I am truly grateful to everyone who supported us with toys, food and other donations with a special thanks to Retravision for letting us use their store as a drop off point.”

Before the riders hit the road, the bikes were on display in Vivian St with music provided by the Orchard Brothers and a mini bike display to inspire the kids.

In addition to the Christmas appeal riders were also supporting the Inverell Rotary and Salvation Army Caravan of Hope project supporting disadvantaged people in isolated communities as well as the local community. Captain Millard said people were still able to support the Salvo’s Christmas Appeal if they hadn’t had the chance already.

“We are still taking donations of gifts, food and money from the shop and we would like to remind people about our Christmas lunch for people who have no one to spend Christmas with. While it is really nice to be able to give needy families gifts on Christmas, sometimes company is the greatest gift of all for a person on Christmas Day, if you know someone who needs somewhere to go on Christmas Day or would like to spend Christmas lunch with us yourself, please contact the shop.”
