TWO first grade cricketers celebrated centuries in separate matches on Saturday.
Aussies first drop Damien Smith scored 161 runs in his innings against Bundarra at Varley Oval.
Aussies batted first and other high scorers were captain Jack Lawton (33) and Pete Reimers (31).
Lawton said Smith’s 161 runs were very impressive.
“He set up the game for us,” Lawton said.
“The outfield was really fast and helped him out a lot during his innings.”
Bundarra couldn’t catch up to Aussies 10-294 and finished 10-172.
Campbell and Freebairn Rebels opening batsman Dave Mudaliar scored an unbeaten 105 against Staggy Creek.
Rebels captain Brendon Campbell said Mudaliar’s batting had won the game for them.
Staggy Creek batted first scoring 6-197 and in reply Rebels scored 2-199.
“We went into the game short of players so it was great to win it,” Campbell said.
“The pitch was a bit ordinary and we had Jake Turner (3) and Dick Gleeson (13) both out for LBW.”
Campbell, who batted fourth, was one run off half a century before the game ended.
“It was a really good for win for us considering we were down a lot of players and didn’t know if we were going to get a game,” he said.
In the third first grade game on Saturday, Delungra won 6-115 against Royal Rats 10-111 at McCosker 2.
