AFTER 20 years of policing in Inverell - senior constable Scott Chester is saying goodbye to the community.

And he is going to be greatly missed.

Senior constable Chester, his wife Sharon and their children Josh and Liam are moving to Gloucester where he will take on the position of sector supervisor.

“The decision to leave was hard,” senior constable Chester said.

“We have a lot of memories here and especially for Sharon as she has lived here her whole life.

“But we are looking forward to a new chapter in our lives although I don’t think it has actually hit home that we are actually leaving.

“When I drive out - that’s when it is going to really sink in.”

Sharon, who has worked at Rockman’s since 1986, said she was also going to miss Inverell.

“But we will be back for visits and we will always have a strong bond with the town,” she said.

Senior constable Chester arrived in Inverell in June 1988 and actively became involved in the community - through work and outside interests.

He was stationed at Inverell Police Station until May 2003 and transferred to Delungra and has been back at Inverell for the past two years.

In 2005 senior constable Chester received the Inverell Shire Citizen of the Year and in 2006 was awarded a community service award whilst stationed at Delungra.

Senior constable Chester has also been given other awards for services to youth and is a life member of the Inverell Basketball Association.

His community commitments include starting Inverell Blue Light in 1988 to provide regular activities and entertainment for youth, he was a member of the Inverell Basketball Association from 1988 to 2004 - during that time he held executive positions as well as a representative player and coach and organised numerous police and friends charity golf days.

While in Delungra senior constable Chester organised family fun nights, helped out with the Delungra newsletter, was part of the Delungra District Development Council, started blue light there and was involved in Australia Day organisation.
